(I'm able to watch youtube and do some web browsing with no visible lag)
(Impossible to use other apps meanwhile, the whole machine slows down significantly)Ħ.2 GB Memory used and 3.4 GB of swap during exporting I tried to export 76 Raw files(30MP) to jpeg in the Develop module and here is the result:ġ1 GB Memory used and 7 GB of swap during exporting With GPU acceleration disabled, Lightroom uses 2 GB of memory after launch and no more than 5 GB during some raw editing. It will take up 9GB of memory as long as I leave Lightroom open, I tried to exit Lightroom and reopen it, the result is a constant 9GB of memory used. With GPU acceleration enabled, Lightroom uses 3 GB memory after launch, when I switch to the Develop module, the memory usage almost INSTANTLY goes up to over 9 GB, and 6GB of swap memory was used, without doing any task.
#LIGHTROOM 6.2 USING TOO MUCH MEMORY PRO#
I received my M1 MacBook pro two days ago, after doing some editing today, I tried to build 1:1 previews for less than 100 images, surprisingly it took forever so I hand to do some test trying to find out the problem: I've run into the same problem with the 8GB model

Nevertheless, I'm still excited about where this is going- Maybe the future apple chips can stitch pano's in an instant at a fraction of the price of today's Mac Pro! Seen some complaints about "swap used" being high on non-LR related stuff on M1 Macs, so maybe it *could* be a inherent "feature" of the M1 SoC. My guess is that the Rosetta translation layer is causing LR to use more RAM than it should- fingers-crossed that a native app might help (But I have no clue what I'm talking about- not an engineer).
Key takeaways (I did more BTS testing too!): (not a YouTuber, hopefully it doesn't violate rule 3 of r/Lightroom)

Seeing that I have time to return one and sell my old Mac, I did a quick comparisons with a fresh install of LR on all three of them in a new catalog with the same batch of pictures: 6-core intel i7 radeon pro 560x 16GB RAM 2018 15" MBP.So because of an unwise state of affairs, I actually found myself with three MacBooks:

how often the computer writes to the SSD instead of using up free RAM) on LR. Then there were some discussions from other M1 users about issues they were facing: particularly pertaining to "swap used" (i.e. I started a thread awhile back complaining of performance glitches on my M1 MBP with 8GB of RAM and it turns out that a bulk of my issues were related to my usage of a 4K external monitor causing more RAM to be used than necessary.
